Professorships at JSC

Several JSC staff members are involved in teaching as a professor at universities nearby.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lippert at Goethe University Frankfurt

Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Lippert is director of the Institute for Advanced Simulation and head of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. Simultaneously, he holds the chair for Modular Supercomputing and Quantum computing at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Norbert Eicker has been appointed professor in parallel hard- and software systems at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, retaining his position as a scientist at JSC's division Technology.

Prof. Dr. Paul Gibbon at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium

Paul Gibbon is Associate Professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL), Department of Mathematics, where he teaches courses on computational methods and plasma physics. At JSC, he heads the Computational Science division and runs the Plasma Physics Simulation Lab. He is also Topic Speaker for "Computational Science and Mathematical Methods" within the Helmholtz Assocation Programme Supercomputing and Big Data.

Holger Gohlke heads the NIC Research Group "Computational Biophysical Chemistry" at Jülich Supercomputing Centre. Simultaneously, he holds a professorship for Computational Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Molecular Bioinformatics at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf.

Johannes Grotendorst is Professor at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen (FH Aachen). At JSC, he was the head of the divison Mathematics and Education until 2020.

Andreas Kleefeld is Professor at the department Medical Engineering and Technomathematics of the University of Applied Sciences Aachen (FH Aachen). At JSC, he works within the division Mathematics and Education as a group leader of the Algorithms, Tools and Methods Lab (ATML) "Numerical and statistical methods". Further, he coordinates JSC's teaching activities for the master courses Applied Mathematics and Informatics.

Morris Riedel is Adjunct Associated Professor in high productivity processing of big data at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, retaining his position as a scientist at JSC in the Federated Systems and Data division.

Giulia Rossetti is Professor for Computational Molecular Science at the Department of Oncology, Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation, RWTH Aachen University. She retains her position as a scientist working both in the JSC Computational Science division and at the Institute for Advanced Simulations (IAS) - Computational Biomedicine (IAS-5 / INM-9) at Forschungszentrum Jülich .

Alexander Schug heads the NIC Research Group "Computational Structural Biology" at Jülich Supercomputing Centre. Simultaneously, he holds a professorship for Computational Structural Biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Godehard Sutmann has been appointed professor for high performance computing in materials science at the Faculty for Mechanical Engineering at Ruhr-University Bochum, retaining his position as a scientist at JSC's division Computational Science.

Estela Suarez is professor at the Computer Science department at the Rhenish Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn. At JSC, she researches on innovative system architectures for HPC as group leader within the division Technology. She coordinates the DEEP projects series.

Prof. Dr. Kalman Szabo at University of Wuppertal

Kalman Szabo was recently appointed professor at JSC and the University of Wuppertal. The professorship is funded by the recruit initiative of the Helmholtz Association. His field of expertise is numerical simulations in elementary particle physics.
